Dubrovnik is the city of a unique political and cultural history (the Dubrovnik Republic, the Statute from 1272), of world-famous cultural heritage and beauty (inscribed on the List of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO) - is one of the most attractive and famous cities of the Mediterranean. Apart from its outstanding natural beauties and well-preserved cultural and historical heritage, Dubrovnik also offers high-quality visitor opportunities. It is also the city of hotels, of high ecological standards and tourist programs, and is equally attractive in all seasons.
Beaches: The famous explorer Jean-Jacques Cousteaue claimed in 1978 that Dubrovnik and its surroundings have the purest sea in the Mediterranean. The International Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), a programme of environmental awareness and education and coastal protection in Europe, awarded the marina of Miho Prcat with a Blue Flag. The "Blue Flag" is an international ecological award which aims at making beaches better and safer for swimming, while, at the same time, protecting their natural environment. The "Blue Flag" symbolizes preserved, safe and pleasant environment for fun, relaxation and recreation, but it also includes an elaborated system of managing the resources, and sustainable development in tourism.
Climate: Summers are here warm and dry and the other seasons are characterised by mild Mediterranean climate. With 260 sunshine days per year this region is one of the sunniest in the Mediterranean. The average air summer temperature amounts to 26°C, the sea temperature amounts to 22°C. The bathing season starts sometimes as early as in April and can last until the end of October.
